THE PLACE · MARITIME INFLUENCE

The Lagoon

Between vines and lagoon, the Bages-Sigean lagoons wrap the estate in briny air. This is the source of our saline freshness.

THE SEA WITHIN REACH OF THE VINES

The water that shapes the wine.

Peyriac-de-Mer reaches out between the Bages-Sigean lagoons, vast brackish lagoons open to the Mediterranean and classified within the Narbonnaise en Méditerranée Regional Nature Park. Domaine Pilenium lives to the rhythm of this ever-present water.

Salt-laden sea spray settles on the leaves and berries; the expanses of water temper the summer heat and cool the nights. This maritime influence, rare in the Languedoc vineyards, gives the grapes a recognisable tension and salinity.

It is this constant dialogue between vine and lagoon that gives the Pilenium cuvées their signature: a saline freshness that runs through the whites, the rosés and the reds alike.

WHAT THE WATER BRINGS

Three effects of the lagoon.

The salt

Sea spray leaves a saline imprint that awakens every cuvée.

The freshness

The expanses of water temper the summer and preserve the grapes’ natural acidity.

The living world

A protected environment, rich in biodiversity, that nourishes our organic viticulture.

PROTECTED LANDSCAPE

In the heart of a nature park.

The estate sits within an exceptional territory: lagoons, salt marshes, garrigue and migratory birds make up a classified landscape. To work here is to work with a nature we protect as much as we cultivate.

This responsibility guides each of our decisions, from the organic management of the vines to the preservation of the habitats surrounding the plots.
